Brief Biography:
Joseph C. Alamilla, Esq. was born in California and was raised in Davis County, Utah. He attended St. Olaf's in Bountiful, Utah before attending Judge Memorial High School in Salt Lake City. He attended the University of Utah and obtained his degree in History and Asian Studies. He graduated from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah in 2003, and has been practicing law for the last thirteen (13) years.
Mr. Alamilla was admitted to practice before the Utah Supreme Court and Utah Federal District Court in 2003, and was licensed to practice law in the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals in 2005. Mr. Alamilla has tried numerous cases, worked on large and small trial teams, and worked on cases valued up to $15 million. Mr. Alamilla currently practices in the areas of family law, criminal law, and business law.
Representative Cases:
Tabor v. Metal Ware Corp., 2007 U.S. App. LEXIS 24452, submitted briefing for Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals case on products liability certifying question of state law to Utah Supreme Court and accepted by the Utah Supreme Court (2007 UT 71, 585 Utah Adv. Rep. 23)
Evans v. Langston – 2007 UT App 240, 166 P.3d 621 successfully defended a nurse anesthetist in a wrongful death medical malpractice claim, secured a directed verdict at trial, and successfully defended the directed verdict on appeal
Family:
Mr. Alamilla has been married to his wife Nicole for the past sixteen (16) years and has four (4) children. He spends his down time biking, swimming, and otherwise playing with his family. He is an avid reader and also enjoys playing chess when he has the opportunity.
* Mr. Alamilla recently obtained the acquittal of his client of all charges in a criminal law case. Through persistent, thorough negotiation with the prosecutor in the case, arguing the lack of merit of their evidence against his client, the charges were dropped. Mr. Alamilla's client was free and allowed to move on with his life.
*Mr. Alamilla recently was able to satisfactorily resolve a contested divorce through a marathon eight (8) hour mediation. At the start of the mediation both parties refused to move off of their initial positions of what they wanted. Through his involvement and extensive negotiations, Mr. Alamilla was able to resolve the case to his client's satisfaction. His client was then able to move forward with his new life with his children.
